Retribution (2014). Review


    The horrors of wartime, bullying, torture, fear and hunger – perhaps nothing could be worse than this. This is what the 2014 movie "Retribution" tells us, which reflects the story of a brave officer who was forced to go through all these unpleasant stages of the war. He couldn't come to his senses for a very long time after the incident, and, perhaps, he still doesn't fully understand how he managed to survive in such conditions.<br />

    The bitterness of the losses, the cruelty of what they saw, the lack of understanding of what was happening – all this left its mark in the minds of those who returned home after the war. And therefore, the most important meaning of life for them remains the thirst for revenge for the dead, for destroyed houses, broken lives – how to live with this further? That is why the main character of the film, Officer Lomax, cannot erase from his memory everything that happened to him. By the will of fate, he will accidentally meet someone who mocked him during the war, but what will this meeting of two enemies lead to in peacetime? Did his tormentor sincerely want to do everything he did then, or was he just following his orders? What gave these two people the time that divided their lives into before and after?<br />

    Will this meeting be able to stop the flow of hatred, or will the officer's memory provoke anger in him? Is it possible to forgive everything that happened? It is to this heavy drama that the story of the film, in which the magnificent actors played so amazingly, will be devoted. Special thanks for the emotional contribution should be said to Colin Firth – he unconditionally convinced the viewer that he was right and remained understood, because as a result he was able to forgive his tormentor, having parted with a sense of revenge forever. <br />
